“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” –
Based in Wyke Regis, Dorset, Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project is a community interest company founded by local environmentalists Jane Fuhrmann and Dave Taylor.
The organisation's main objective is to create community based projects aimed at reducing the pollution from litter in our seas and on our beaches.
Originating from a beach cleaning background, Jane and Dave soon became aware more sustainable solution was required than just beach cleaning and sending the waste to be incinerated or dumped in landfill.
By taking a holistic approach they tackle marine litter pollution from its source through to its final destination.
"Our coasts and beaches are precious, let’s protect them!"
Our Location
Based in Wyke Regis, on Dorset's Jurassic coast we clean the coastline between Osmington and Chickerell and recycle from across the entire Dorset Coast.
We have a diverse coastline that includes the popular seaside resort of Weymouth, Portland Harbour, Chesil beach and the Fleet lagoon.
We are faced with many challenges including litter from holiday makers on the beaches, recreational and commercial fishing and boat waste washed ashore from off shore commercial shipping lanes.
